The Review (5/21-5/27)

Bowtie game strong. This week in my world of music:

Eric Bellinger starts the week off with lead single, ends with release of EP

The R&B crooner is back at it again with a new song “Spare Time” that has a chill vibe but also a strong 808 you would hear in a club. His EP “Eventually” is out now so check that out in your ‘spare time’ ;).

Rookie Fresh continues to put out new music

“Delorean Gang 2.0” is Rockie Fresh’s latest release, following his mixtape series “The Night I Went To…” He continues to impress with this spacey, futuristic sounding jam. This has a smooth feel to it, perfect for riding through the city with your woes.

Damian Lillard: hot on and off the court

I’ve said on this site before to watch out for Dame Lillard. Well, he dropped another song this week over a Jahlil Beats instrumental and it’s straight fire. Dame can ball on the court and on the track.

More smooth West Coast bars coming your way

“Bad Boy on Death Row” is Dave East’s latest offering featuring Game and let me say that it is really dope. So smooth and the back and forth verses from both artists sounds perfect together.

Trey Songz bringing the HEAT

Trey has been quiet for the past few months but he came in real hot with his newest banger “All I Had.” This is a remix to Belly and The Weeknd’s “Might Not.” This song is sure to get the party started or keep the party going but bottom line is play this to get the people going. In addition, he also dropped 3 other remixes that you can check out but this was the stand-out in my opinion.

Finally, we don’t have to listen to Pitbull during the Finals!

I love basketball. Love playing it. Love watching it. But every year, while watching the Finals, I am forced to listen to some new god-awful Pitbull song every commercial break. Not this year, babay! The Roots were chosen to create this year’s song, which comes to us in the form of “Champion.” This song is greatness.

Three fresh remix’s of Fat Joe’s smash hit “All The Way Up”

The legend Jay-Z hops on the official version of the remix.

Meek Mill throws more shots at Drake and Fab drops another solid verse to no one’s surprise.

Jadakiss decides to freestyle a verse over the infectious beat as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, Gucci is free!

ATL legend Gucci Mane was released from prison yesterday after an over 3 year long stay and wasted no time releasing new music. The title speaks for itself.

Joey Bada$$ comes through again

I’ve been listening to Joey more and more and I’m loving what I’m hearing. His new song “Devastated” is another really good song, with an uplifting hook and some dope flows spit throughout.

New Kevin Gates

Kevin Gates dropped “Murder for Hire 2” today hot off the success of his latest album (especially the single “2 Phones”). It’s only 8 songs with a running time of about 30 minutes but is sure to keep Gates fans satisfied. I’ll be giving this a listen later on.

Fifth Harmony releases “7/27”

Fifth Harmony has been a mainstay on the pop charts with “Work From Home” and today they released their new album. The album only has three features but they are good ones in Ty Dolla $ign, Fetty Wap, and Missy Elliot.

XO and Roc Nation artist Belly releases new album “Another Day in Paradise”

I’m new to the Belly bandwagon but from the little I’ve heard, I’m a fan. This dude is going to blow up fast so I suggest hopping on that bandwagon now so you look cooler in a few years.

That is a lot of music for you but some more you may want to check out: Casey Veggies released a mixtape entitled “Customized Greatly 4: The Return of the Boy.” YG dropped his lead single “Why You Always Hatin?” featuring Drake and Kamaiyah. Snoop Dogg released 2 new songs and announced his upcoming album is dropping on July 1st. And finally, O.T. Genesis dropped off a new remix of his smash hit “Cut It” featuring verses from Lil Wayne and T.I. That’s it for me. Enjoy your weekend, folks.

Weekly Hip-Hop/R&B Review (3/12-3/18)

Ballin’ like it’s March Madness. That’s 7th grade me showing the squad how it’s done in practice. Now, let’s get to this music:

DMX returns with “Moe Wings”

DMX took time out of busy schedule of being either in the hospital or in jail to drop a new song “Moe Wings.” X spits hard, like he’s known for, over an upbeat instrumental. Big Moeses and Joe Young provide an assist with a verse each to complete the song.

Tinashe keeps killing it

I don’t think it’s possible for Tinashe to have a bad verse, hook, or song. The best way to describe her voice is sexy. And I love her sexy music.

Vibe along to Domo Genesis’s new single “Dapper” featuring Anderson Paak

I’m loving everything Anderson Paak touches right now. His voice and style are so unique and refreshing to hear. Not to overlook the guys whose song this is though, Domo Genesis is a dope rapper who has a new album coming out that this song will be featured on. Look for more to come from both Domo and Paak in the future.

This song didn’t make the album? OMG

BJ The Chicago Kid drops the CDQ version of his song “OMG” with Jay Rock that was left off his debut album “In My Mind.” This ish is dope, enough said.

Trey Songz beautifully covers David Bowie’s “Life on Mars”

This song will appear on the next episode of HBO’s new series “Vinyl” and it is just beautiful. It should be common knowledge at this point that Trey Songz has a great voice but this is all the proof anyone needs. I legit got goosebumps listening to this the first time through.

Royce keeps killing tracks, new EP to come before “Layers”

7 minutes of Royce Da 5’9 spitting over a soulful instrumental? Yes, please. My real hip-hop heads know how incredible Royce’s wordplay is and it is on full display in this track “Dead President Heads.” I can’t wait for these two projects to drop.

Ignorant trap music…my guilty pleasure

I gotta admit, I love trap music in bunches. I much prefer music with meaning and lyrical skill/wordplay but sometimes you just gotta throw on some ignant shit and go crazy. Migos is one of my go to artists for that because they always have a dope flow and usually rap over hard beats. “Think Twice” is just that.

Some other things to note quick before signing off: David Banner dropped a mixtape, Lil Boosie (or Boosie Badazz) released an album, Anthony Hamilton put out a new song off his upcoming album, and PARTYNEXTDOOR released a song entitled “Admire Me.” Go check em out if you so desire and enjoy the music I posted for y’all. Peace!
