Yesterday was the 25th anniversary of Nirvana’s Nevermind, originally released September 24, 1991, and today is the 26th anniversary of Dave Growl joining the band. So with two celebrations, I figured Sunday RnR this week had to be Nevermind. Even a casual listener knows at least half the songs on this album, and knows them well. “Smells Like Teen Spirit”, “In Bloom”, “Come As You Are”, “Breed”, and “Lithium” are the first 5 tracks, and all of them have been long lasting icons of the grunge age. But then again, Nirvana and specifically this album are always accredited to the lasting legacy of grunge music. They literally changed the landscape of music in the 90s with Nevermind, and whether or not the movement itself lasted, a lot of the values and techniques of the music went on to influence musicians of all generations. Good listening, friends.
