#tbt – ‘Told You So’ by Miguel

My favorite non-Pittsburgh artist of 2018 was…you guessed it Miguel. My favorite fashion brand of 2018…Pleasures. This song has an unbelievable sound lyrically and musically. The wavy vibe of Miguel’s voice plus the Tame Impala feeling of the song just brings the whole piece together so smoothly. Add in the fact that Miguel did a collab. with the trend setting street-wear brand Pleasures, and I’ve been hooked since day one.

The song showed up on my top 5 songs of 2018 from Spotify…no surprise here. I have played it consistently in my cycle classes that I teach at 6ycle (shout out), and it’s been a staple for me since December 1st when Miguel released War & Leisure (underrated album fr.)  If you haven’t listened to this song, well sheeeet just go listen to it !!

The Review (6/18-6/24)

Here’s a pic of my band and some groupies from the first year we were on tour. Crazy how times change so quickly. Enough reminiscing, let’s see what this week had to offer:

Remix baaaabyyyy

Belly’s breakout hit “Might Not” has been one of my favorite songs of 2016 thus far. Now I have been blessed with a remix featuring 2 Chainz and Yo Gotti. Beat is fire, 2 Chainz KILLED it, and this song will remain on most my playlists.

Ace Hood reflects on “Father’s Day”

“Starvation V” is coming soon and Ace keeps dropping off great tracks in anticipation. “Father’s Day” is a different lane than Ace’s usual bangers. He raps an open letter about his parenting that is beautiful and honest.

There’s no stopping Game

Just a week after releasing a soundtrack for his A&E documentary series, Game is back dropping the lead single off his next album “1992.” This smooth track features Jeremih on the hook, which is always a great choice. “All Eyez” indicates the new album will be another good one from the always hard working Game.

“Wrist” game strong

Last week, Logic dropped off “Flexicution” and returns this week with the Pusha T assisted “Wrist.” Does this mean an album is on the way? Probably, but for now all we can do is wait and enjoy these jams. Both artists go hard on this.

Jeezy returns to form with strip club anthem “Magic City Monday”

Jeezy is one of my favorite trap artists. An OG in the game, he consistently puts out dope music. “Magic City Monday” is a banger featuring two fellow ATL artists, 2 Chainz and Future. Throw this on that ratchet playlist you have.

Wiz Khalifa hits us with a slow-jam

I am really not a huge Khalifa fan. I don’t think he sucks, but I don’t think he’s great either. This song is definitely one of his that I put in the like category. “More and More” is a slow, spacey jam that reminds me of early Cudi and “L$D” by A$AP Rocky. Really feeling this one.

The Suicide Squad soundtrack is shaping up to be legendary

“Sucker for Pain” features verses from Ty Dolla $ign, Logic, Lil Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa and a hook from the lead singers of Imagine Dragons and X Ambassadors. What an incredible line-up of talent for one song but would it succeed? Short answer, ab-so-fucking-lute-ly. Hook is fire, verses are dope (especially Wayne who snapped), and this one takes the grand prize of favorite song this week.

“Come Through and Chill” with Miguel’s new song

Want to party tonight? Go get em. Want to chill with your girl tonight? Throw this track on your playlist and vibe out.

New Cudi is straight money

My goodness. Cudi bringing the heat on this one. After a few lackluster albums (at least in this guy’s humble opinion), it seems Cudi is back to top form after his earlier two releases (“The Frequency” and “All In”) and now this. Listen to “Goodbye” immediately.

Can’t have a successful blog without some Riff Raff

Riff Raff released his album “Peach Panther” today. I won’t say anything other than, if you like to laugh, I’d say give it a listen otherwise, move on to the next.

Future never stops making music

The reign of Future continues. Earlier I stated that Game makes a lot of music, well Future has been putting out even more. After already dropping a mixtape and an album this year, Future unexpectedly dropped another mixtape with producer DJ Esco today entitled “Project E.T.” Fans rejoice, haters complain, others ignore.

Some final notes before I sign off here: Nipsey Hussle of course dropped a new track this week and Fat Joe released the Westside remix to his hit single “All The Way Up” featuring Snoop Dogg, Game, and E-40. That’s all I can remember from this week. Hope I didn’t miss anything important. Enjoy what I gave you!
