‘Don’t Worry’ by Chalk Dinosaur

Follow That Feeling.

Don’t Worry.

Can’t stress enough how chill the vibes are in this tune and the sheer creativity and quality of production on this track and all Chalk Dinosaur’s tracks.

Their music is introspective, thought provoking, and evokes emotion that leaves the listener willingly vulnerable to the emotions they’re feeling, yet yearning for more of that feeling.

‘Space Citizen (Cosmic Man)’ by Starship Mantis

Piano rifts doe.

Jazzy, funky, trippyyy.

Saxophone solos with gnarly bass lines.

Can I go to Mars and listen to this song?

The high pitch of the vocals keeping this song silky smooth.

My regret of 2018 was showing up to Spirit on NYE an hour late and missing Starship Mantis.

Good thing y’all can catch Starship Mantis and Tribe Eternal On February 15th at The Marquee in Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh’s new venue!

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about the drum solo either 🤘🏼

See you there!?

‘Honest Man’ by Fat Night

For 2019, all I want is to do the best I can. Man, does this song motivate me to do just that.

No matter what happens in 2019, one foot in front of the other is what I want. I want to succeed, fail, try, do, and all while doing that, I simply want to do the best I can while being an honest man.

Honestly (ha), I feel good about being an honest, good person towards others and even myself. But, if I’m being honest with myself, I have room to grow in 2019 from 2018. I want to move more in 2019 in all phases of life.

Movement > Stagnation.

Ambition > Complacency.

The funk, R & B, soul jams that Fat Night has created have caught my attention in only 24 hours of listening. With that…

Fat Night plays at Spirit Lodge in Pittsburgh tonight, and I can’t wait to see them play!

Local artist Isaiah Small and band Lofi Deplhi will be opening. Show starts at 9!

‘Simple’ by Mars Jackson ft. Benji.

What’s up Pittsburgh, the rest of the world? It’s been about 2 years, but I’m getting back to writing about A BEAT A DAY, so I’m going to keep this “Simple” and break down the vibes on this track by Mars Jackson ft. Benji.

The beat starts off catchy and transitions into a wavy, electric-sounding organ over top to start the chorus off just right.

In verse 1 Mars spits seemingly nonchalant, flowin’ rhymes from start to end about the girl he is trying to get to know and ultimately woo over.

In the 2nd verse, Benji. begins by singing clever lyrics on wanting to get to know a girl on another level – “Do you really like the things you like or you just like it how they gave it to you? Lift the package and it’s the product, and shawty they ain’t really bangin’ with you. I just wanna see what you’re all about…”

Benji. Champion

It’s like he’s talking about the layers that make up a person, a girl in this case, and appreciating her for those layers that get peeled back as you get to know someone more and more.

Lyrics are always up for interpretation and to me both Mars and Benji. are talking about getting to know a girl on a real, meaningful level and doing exactly that can be Simple.

This is a ‘True fuckin’ playa credential’ song right here.

Come Down- anderson .paak

From the time you pressed play to the time you began reading this, the funk has already encapsulated you. You are now trapped in the funk and the funk will not let go. Look at you, grooving along to the bass-line. I don’t blame you. I was hooked the second I heard it. Despite putting out some really good music before, anderson .paak burst onto the scene this year with strong features on both Dr. Dre’s and Game’s albums and has been riding his new found popularity since. He is dropping his album “Malibu” (the follow-up to his last album “Venice”) this Friday, January 15. The song “Come Down” will be featured on the album, which fans are getting increasingly excited for. Check out some more of .paak’s music below and get down to “Come Down” all day today to make this Monday a little better.

Hot Natured- Reverse Skydiving ft. Anabel Englund

This song reinforces my feeling that there is so much good music out there just waiting to be discovered by your ears. This song is over 2 years old but I just found it thanks to my personalized “Discover Weekly” Playlist on Spotify. The Discovery weekly playlist, “is based both on your own listening as well as what others are playlisting and listening to around the songs you love – making your playlist completely unique and full of deep cuts and new discoveries.” This new feature was rolled out near the end of July and it’s become my favorite feature to use within Spotify. Now onto the song itself.

The words ‘reverse skydiving’ have never been read or said in my life but it sounded cool so I had to give it a listen. You’ll be able to hear right off the bat that the beat is super funky, hooking me right from the start. The funky beat is accompanied by sharp vocals and fun lyrics, making it a great song to blast on a good speaker system. Give it a listen and let us know what you think!
