Mysterious, trippy, intriguing, apocalyptic??
A lot of thoughts come to mind when hearing this song, and I always enjoy songs that make me think.
Synthy piano rifts with cinematic, explosive yet subtle background sounds and bumpin’ bass make for a stellar production by Nikola @sincerelynikola
Tommy Girl matches her tone and energy perfectly with the sound put out in this track.
I’ve never been to Neverland, but no one is truly in control, so why not?
Looking for some positive vibes to get the night going? Look no further. This new song by Draper is exactly what you need. A very uplifting beat and a soothing vocal performance make this song wonderful. This song is poised to blow up soon so be the first to put your friends onto it; then tell them you heard about it on A Beat A Day. You’re welcome 🙂 Everyone have a safe, but rowdy, night.
Well everyone, it may be a farewell to the weekend, but for this guy and many other Pittsburgh people I am only worried about getting to Tuesday, where I will be seeing The Chainsmokers at Stage AE. I have a lot to look forward to in the next 48 hours – I hope you do too.
For this reason, I’m posting some music by DJ Derek Vincent Smith – Stage Name: Pretty Lights. He has put out some really amazing beats and electronic music and is ultimately the reason why I started digging different genres and styles of EDM in the first place. The first electronic song that ever caught my ear was Finally Moving. The thing I love about this song besides the beats is the use of Etta James’ vocals. You’re probably thinking you’ve heard these vocals before in a really popular song and that’s because you have. Pretty Lights produced this song in 2006, but then Avicii put out his famous song Levels in 2013. Now, while I can’t say I dislike Levels, I’ll always have the thought in the back of my mind of how Pretty Lights was able to incorporate these vocals into Finally Moving. I’m sure you know by now which I prefer, so go ahead and give it a listen above if you haven’t already.
ODESZA SHOUT OUT:
I thought at first I’d only post 1 song by Pretty Lights, but I realized what a terrible mistake that would be because I wouldn’t get to give a HUGE shout out to one of my Top 3 artists of 2015 – ODESZA (my next few posts will reveal the other 2). Harrison Mills and Clayton Knight bursted on the scene in 2013 with their first album/extended play My Friends Never Die. From there, they released Say My Name Remixes and All We Need Remixes albums. So many good songs and remixes have been put out by these guys in the past 2 or 3 years, and I feel like 2015 was really their breakout year for a huge fan following. With that being said, here is one of my favorite ODESZA remixes. Featuring Pretty Lights with a remix by ODESZA, check out One Day They’ll Know below.
And for all you Biggie fans, check out this Pretty Lights remix of Jay Z Empire State of Mind
If you don’t know (Pretty Lights) , now you know…
Trachstar, AKA Josh Trach, is a senior with me at Pitt and a friend I met freshman year. He also happens to DJ and does a great job for a college kid making the perfect kind of mixes to pregame too, especially the first couple weeks of the new year. He actually played a set in a club in Barcelona when he studied there last fall (so sick) and I’m really looking forward to seeing the types of music he puts together and how he progresses throughout the year. Give him a follow on soundcloud and play his shit all over campus.
A few days ago Soundcloud added a new feature that gives you the option to play suggested tracks similar to the one you’re listening to. This feature is an absolute game changer for finding new music. I used this new feature for the first time a few days ago and instantly found 10 new songs to favorite. One of those songs was this The Rooftop Boys remix of ‘if you want to stay’ by The Grisworld and it’s a bonafide summer jam.
I wasn’t familiar with either Grisworld or The Rooftop Boys before discovering this song so thank you Soundcloud! I recommend Blasting this remix poolside, blasting it while you’re cruising down the highway with the squad, blasting it while you’re working out, blasting it while you’re day drinking, etc. If you want to check-out the original it’s here. IMO the remix is much better than the original but I’ll let you decide for yourself.
