Halestorm dropped their third covers EP this Friday, following the system of playing songs old and new from different genres. They open with Whitesnake’s “Still of the Night”, though their version is more focused, only a little over half the length of the original song. Next is Sophie B. Hawkins “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover”, subbing out the driving synth sound for some hard rocking guitars. Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself For Loving You” is a little more close to form for Halestorm, and then Twenty One Pilots get the treatment on their song “Heavens”. Soundgarden’s “Fell On Black Days” givens the grunge classic a hard rock make over, and the EP finishes out with Metallica’s “Ride The Lightning”, which is not why I’m writing about this, but it doesn’t hurt. I enjoy Halestrom’s music, and has I’ve said in the past, I love listening to cover songs. Hearing an artist’s take on someone else’s music is always interesting to me. But here’s a nice easy listen for your Sunday.
