There’s been a lot going on with album releases recently. Alter Bridge, Sum 41, and Green Day all put out albums last week (among others, but I’ve listened to these so far). So let me say that I loved Alter Bridge’s album The Last Hero, and I believe you can look for A$$ Monét’s write up of Green Day’s Revolution Radio sometime soon. But I’ve listened to Sum 41’s 13 Voices through twice, and have it going while I’m writing this. G Baby and I listened to a lot of Sum 41 back in the day and I wanted to hear it again after getting his opinion on the album. To me, 13 Voices seems like a lot of the Sum 41 we used to love with a little something new sprinkled in where is comes. The whole album just feels good to listen to. There’s something in every track that just gives me the Sum 41 feeling I remember from growing up. I think “Breaking the Chain”, “God Save Us All (Death to POP)”, “There Will Be Blood”, and “War” are the tracks that really stand out to me, though I enjoyed the whole album. I wrote about “War” when it was released as a single, and I believe G Baby agreed that it’s basically the perfect Sum 41 song. The mix of the more relaxed sections with the heavy drive with a lyrical message of personal struggle that’s open enough to be whatever you want it to be, and it comes together beautifully. So give it a listen and see what you think. Sit back and rock out, my friends.
