Every so often when tagging newly downloaded songs, I’ll get to the ‘genre’ section of my iTunes and just have no idea what to tag it as. Although initially frustrating, it’s one of my favorite things to happen when finding new music. This was very much the case when discovering this beautiful Oshi remix of Ridin Round by Kali Uchis.
The type of subgenre innovation constantly occurring in Electronic music is extremely unique comparative to other music genres and provides opportunities for songs like this to exist… which in my opinion is what it’s all about. Having said that, if I did have to describe the genre of this track I would say, imagine you walk into Coldstone and say, “Lemme get some Chill Hop, a little Rap, some sort of Heaven Sub-Bass Goodness, and then throw pitched up vocals with a cuteness filter in there… oh and mash some Butterfingers in that shit.. mainly just because I love Butterfingers.”
I don’t know that I’m fully satisfied with my description, but at the end of the day it’s not about genres or cookie cutter styles, it’s about the art of expression, (THE MUSIC, PEOPLE), so kudos to Kali Uchis and Oshi for doing them and keeping it fresh.
Below is the original track with its accompanying music video so make sure to check it out in order to fully appreciate the creative makeover Oshi gave the record.
Until next time,

P.S. Told myself that I wasn’t going to post this song until I actually rode around in a car and bumped it… [Spoiler Alert] I did… and it bumps
P.P.S. Sorry for being preachy but sometimes it feels good to step back and re-fall in love with music and its wonder
