In case you haven’t noticed, I really like west coast hip hop. Well, I like a lot hip hop but the West Coast has always held a special place in my heart. I’ve always loved the hardcore mentality and the beats. The beats that come from the west coast have always been among my favorite. From Daz Dillinger to DJ Quick to Dr. Dre to the current “it” producer DJ Mustard, the west coast has consistently produced great music with the perfect instrumentals that represent the culture.
The newest song to vibe to is “Don’t Trip” by Compton artist Game featuring legendary emcees Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, and getting an assist from the veteran LA native will.i.am. In my opinion, nothing really beats Dre’s instrumentals. His track record speaks for itself. And we can add “Don’t Trip” to that resume. Both Dre and will.i.am produced this masterpiece. The bass line of this song is funky as hell. With that as the centerpiece of the beat, it’s hard to not have a jam. Add the drum kit and all the other synths and sounds and you get a bomb instrumental. Game, Cube, and Dre add their Compton style flair to their verses to complete another (dare I say) west coast classic. When I listen to this I feel like I should be cruising down the street in my ’64. But I don’t have a ’64 to cruise in so I’ll keep 1) sitting in bed or 2) cruise down the street in my Civic while I jam to “Don’t Trip.”
You can get this song and the entire “The Documentary 2” album on Friday, October 9th.
