For most of us, Summer 2k15 has sadly come to an end. What a summer I had working in Pittsburgh, but it’s great to be back in the school grind. I felt obliged to make a list of my top 10 songs of this summer that I’ve had on repeat since May. So without further ado, let’s get into my top 10 tracks of the summer.
10. Desire- Years & Years
I found out about Years & Years from my cousin when I went back home a few weeks ago. They released their debut album Communion back in July and it is really dope. Desire is my favorite track on the album – it gets me groovin’ and I know it will get you groovin’ too.
9. Lean On – Major Lazer & DJ Snake ft. Mø
This song would probably be higher on my list if I hadn’t played it out for myself. I’ve been a fan of Major Lazer and DJ Snake for years and I knew they were gonna hit the ball outta the park with this one, which they did. The vocals from Mø made this song a popular big stage festival song, with multiple artists making remixes of the track.
8. What Do You Mean? – Justin Bieber
I posted this song a few days ago and it’s been on loop ever since. Never thought I would say that about a Justin Bieber song but this summer has definitely changed my view on JB with this and Where R U Now. The flute in the drop is orgasmic and has the perfect summer vibes. Skrillex did an awesome job producing this track. Check this out if you haven’t already.
7. Be Right There – Diplo & Sleepy Tom
Chewb posted this yesterday and if you didn’t check it out then, you better check it out now. Diplo doesn’t disappoint with this end of the summer banger. The bass line is tooo tough, and is perfect to jam out to at any time of the day.
6. Beautiful Now – Zedd ft. Jon Bellion (Zonderling Remix)
I came across this remix the other day when I was listening to Oliver Heldens’ new Heldeep Radio mix and I had to find out what the remix was asap. I’m not really too familiar with Zonderling but this remix definitely caught my attention. This is a really fresh take on the remix that you need to bump this weekend. I will definitely be looking into more of their stuff in the near future.
5. Shades of Grey – Oliver Heldens & Shaun Frank ft. Delaney Jane
Speaking of Oliver Heldens… this is one of my favorite originals of his. Delaney Jane rocked the vocals and the drop is full of bass and was summer anthem in the deep/future house genre. Oliver Heldens wears a gecko costume in the music video and it’s hilarious (check it out here). Shades of Grey was one of the best tracks of the summer and I still keep it in my arsenal when I make a mix.
4. Omen – Disclosure ft. Sam Smith
Disclosure and Sam Smith just know how to make amazing music together. I posted about this song when it came out earlier this summer and I can’t get sick of it. Listen to it.
3. Back to Back – Drake
You can’t talk about the music scene of summer 2015 without bringing up the Drake/Meek beef. Drake absolutely murderrrred Meek on this and almost makes me embarrassed to be from Philly. Drizzy really didn’t hold back with this diss whatsoever and could go up there as one of the top diss tracks of all time. He clowned Meek at OVO Fest with those memes (which were hilarious). Aside from all that, the beat itself is too hard and the bass will blow up anyone’s subwoofers at full blast. If you’ve been under a rock for the past two months and still haven’t heard this, hit the jump.
2. Woodstock/All Time Low/Woke the F*ck Up – Jon Bellion
I figured I would group these three songs together since they all deserved to be on my top 10 and I ran out of spots. You all know how much praise and respect we have for Jon Bellion here at ABAD. The dude just makes music that is flawless. I get goosebumps thinking back to him doing the All Time Low beat on his beat pad back in June at the Altar Bar. He released each of these songs throughout the summer, and just recently posted a 20 minute long behind the scenes video of how he came up with each of those. If you have 20 minutes to kill, I highly recommend stopping what you’re doing and click the above video. If you don’t have 20 minutes to kill, stop whatever you think is more important than watching this video and do it. It is amazing how this guy translates what’s going on in his mind into absolutely brilliant music.
- Roses – The Chainsmokers ft. Rozes
Yup. You guessed it. Roses is no doubt my top song of the summer. The refreshing beat that starts off the song, mixed with the beautiful vocals from Rozes and the tooooo dope production from the Chainsmokers, and then that drop. That drop tho. If you don’t jump around when you hear this drop you gotta be deaf. This song is so uplifting and always puts me in a good mood. If only you guys knew how upset I am that I didn’t go to PSU this past Friday when they had a free show. There’s no song that I could put above Roses to captivate my summer and that is why Roses takes my number 1 spot for my top songs of the summer.
I hope y’all enjoyed my list and leave a comment below to let me know what I missed and what’s on your top 10.
