CyHi The Prynce- Elephant in the Room

Another day, another diss track, this one coming from the G.O.O.D. music camp.  Today, CyHi The Prynce unleashed a 3 minute attack on his label boss, Kanye West, after being dropped from Def Jam.  The song samples Cage The Elephant’s “Shake Me Down,” which serves the purpose for CyHi expressing how he feels like he’s been shelved for too long, waiting for his chance that has yet to come.  He also takes some shots at fellow G.O.O.D. music signees Pusha T and Teyana Taylor.  CyHi signed to G.O.O.D. music in 2010 and has only dropped mixtapes since then, as fans (which I am) wait patiently for his debut album.  CyHi has undeniable talent.  His lyrics are always clever and he has great flow, but Kanye has neglected to bring him to the forefront.

The message is from the heart and 100% true, but this may be more of a publicity stunt than an actual diss.  With all that is going on with the Drake-Meek Mill beef, CyHi might be using this as an opportunity to boost his name and get Kanye to put out his debut album.  This is far from the first time one of Kanye’s signees has dissed him.  Big Sean had very similar (though less harsh) words for Kanye in 2009, wondering why Ye hadn’t put Big Sean on yet.  In hindsight, it turned out well for Big Sean, who blew up (with Kanye’s full support) and continues to make great music.  That said, CyHi is definitely displaying his anger and frustration with the situation and may be perfectly fine with cutting ties with Kanye and all the G.O.O.D. artists. Only time will tell.

Hopefully, this works in favor for CyHi because he is a great artist who deserves to be heard by the masses.  If you haven’t heard of him or haven’t really listened to his stuff yet, listen to his most recent mixtape “Black Histori Project 2: N.A.A.C.P.”
